Morning session - Midlothian High School practice field. Overcast. 68 deg F. No wind. Ran Vivi on 3 scuffed tracks to introduce her to tracking. I tried to remember to not move forward unless she had her nose to the ground. She's ADHD so can lose her focus easily.
Theresa Myers contacted me since she had seen that we both had the day off so we met in the afternoon so we could video each other.
Afternoon session - Poor Farm Pork football field. Overcast. 70 deg F. Slight wind. Ran 2 tracks with Vivi (the 2 on our tracking website for beginners). First track was all scuffed with food drops every 10 scuffs. The second was alternating 10 scuffs and then 3 steps with food drop on 2nd step. She was definitely more focused than this morning. Below are the videos.
I saw Betty's post about doing a track with 10 various articles to help improve indications. Vivi isn't showing interest in indicating so I will definitely try that (need to accumulate some more articles). We have the same issue in scent work where her indications are not strong a lot of the time. I know this was an issue for Renny and putting his frisbee under or in the glove worked for him, but Vivi is just not that crazy about any particular toy or food like Renny was. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
we will get to work on articles immediately (they are a bugaboo of mine). If she's a bit ADHD, feel free to scuff with food every footstep. The first thing we want her to learn is to go footstep to footstep, and not air scent from food drop to food drop.
